Astrophytums

Astrophytums

Astrophytums are another prized and sought after genus from Mexico and Texas. Unlike Ariocarpus, however, they are easier and quicker to grow and far more often seen offered for sale. Their interesting body shapes, colours and markings make them very attractive and their yellow (sometimes with a red throat) flowers are very showy. The body shapes and markings have been accentuated by hybridisation and many wonderful forms have become available in recent years.

The picture was of one of the classes at the BCSS Zone One Show at Gateshead Garden Festival in 1990.
