Brachycereus nesioticus

Brachycereus nesioticus on the Island of Bartolome Brachycereus nesioticus

Apart from Opuntias, two genera of cacti can be found on the Galapagos Islands, the tall growing Jasminocereus and this one, Brachycereus nesioticus. These pictures were taken on Bartolome Island, but these plants can also be found on other islands. The dark coloured stems appear to be healthy, the dark colour merely being the loss of the spines' yellow colouration with age.
