Uebelmannia pectinifera

The most striking and recognisable Uebemannia,
with its deep purple body and neatly arranged spines on vertical ribs,
U. pectinifera is more common in collections than it is in habitat. It
is only known from one location, north east of Diamantina, Minas Gerais,
in Brazil. The plants are found growing in the cracks in the rocks or in
pockets or small flat areas of organic leaf mould and sand found among
rocks at about 1000m (3300ft) altitude. Although usually globular or slightly
elongated in cultivation, it is reported to grow to as much as 800mm (2.5ft)
